Επιδημία οποιούχων φαρμάκων δημιουργεί
στην Αυστραλία μια νέα γενιά τοξικομανών

Επιδημία με χρήση οπιούχων φαρμάκων χτυπά την Αυστραλία κρυφά εδώ και καιρό, όπως αποκαλύπτεται από δημοσιεύματα τα οποία επισημαίνουν την δημιουργία μιας νέας γενιας τοξικομανών.
Το νέο κοινωνικό χτύπημα δεν προέρχεται από το Αφγανιστάν, ή από συμμορίες μοτοσικλετιστών αλλά τις συνταγές γιατρών και τα ράφια φαρμακοποιών. Oxycontin συνταγογραφούνται και παρέχονται σε άτομα που είτε τα βάζουν στο αίμα τους με ενέσεις όπως την ηρωϊνη (δηλώνοντας ότι δεν νοιώθουν διαφορά) ή δημιουργούν εθισμό σε άτομα που τα λαμβάνουν αρχιικά ως αναλγιτικά και στη συνέχεια τα χρειάζονται συνεχώς – όπως μια εργαζόμενη μητέρα που έλαβε Oxycontin γι’ ανακούφιση πόνων στην πλάτη και έφτασε στην εξάρτηση.
Πιστεύεται ότι στην περιοχή Κίνγκς Κροςς του Σύδνεϋ τα «βελονιάσματα» με το προαναφερθέν και άλλα παρεμφερή οποιούχα δίνουν και παίρνουν καθημερινά.
Το εν λόγω θέμα αναπτύσσεται το βράδυ της Δευτέρας 27 Σεπτεμβρίου 2010 στην τηλεοπτική εκπομπή «Four Corners» του ABC1, όπου και γίνονται συστάσεις για τα μέτρα που πρέπει άμεσα να λάβουν οι αρμόδιες αρχές και υπηρεσίες.

Tραγικός θάνατος στην Ελλάδα

Σοκ κυρίως για την ελληνική παροικία του Σύδνεϋ, όπου έδρασε για 5 σχεδόν δεκαετίες, αλλά και του Ελληνισμού της Αυστραλίας που γνώριζε κάποιες από τις δραστηριότητές του, υπήρξε η είδηση  του τραγικού θανάτου που γνώρισε επισκεπτόμενος για άλλη μια φορά την πατρίδα Ελλάδα ο 79χρονος Δημήτριος Τσιγκρής!

Ο άτυχος ομογενής, βγαίνοντας από την οικογενειακή κατοικία του στο Νέο Ηράκελιο,  χτυπήθηκε από διερχόμενο αυτοκίνητο στο οποίο επέβαιναν δύο νέοι και μεταφέρθηκε στο νοσοκομείο εν αφασία και κατακρεουργημένος, ιδιαίτερα στο λαιμό. Εξέπνευσε το βράδυ του Σαββάτου, ενώ είχε ήδη σπεύσει στο πλευρό του από το Σύδνεϋ η σύζυγός του Μαίρη Τσιγκρή.

Ο Δημήτρης Τσιγκρής, διετέλεσε Ιστορικός πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής  Κοινότητας Σύδνεϋ, αφού επι των ημερών του αγοράστηκε το πλέον αξιόλογο κτήριο που περιλαμβάνεται στην ακίνητη περιουσία της , αλλά έγινε και η αποσκίρτηση του καθεδρικού ναού της Αγίας Σοφίας.

Θεολόγος εξ’ Ελλάδος με σπουδές και στην Αυστραλία όπου πρόσφατα έλαβε διδακτορικό, συνέγραψε την ιστορία του Ναού της Αγίας Τριάδος, της πρώτης  Ελληνορθόδοξου Εκκλησίας του Σύδνεϋ και ως το τέλος ήταν ο πρόεδρος του Συλλόγου Ελλήνων Καλλιτεχνών και Λογοτεχνών.

ORGANISATIONS INVITED TO RUN GREEK

FOSTER CARE RECRUITMENT PROGRAM

 Minister for Community Services Linda Burney has called for tenders from organisations to run a Greek foster carer recruitment program in Central Sydney.

 Ms Burney said $45,000 will be provided to the successful tender to work with Community Services in developing and running the much-needed recruitment campaign.

 “We urgently need Greek foster carers in Central Sydney for children who cannot live safely at home and would benefit from a supportive and safe family of the same cultural background,” Ms Burney said.

 “Where possible it is extremely important for children to be placed with a family of the same cultural background to ensure they remain connected to their heritage.

 “There is a large demographic of Greek people in the region and as a result there is a need for a targeted campaign to recruit carers from this background.”

 The successful tender will be responsible for running the recruitment campaigns, holding foster care information sessions, distributing translated material, and working with current carers.

 The organisation will also be required to liaise with, and provide language support to, current carers with a Greek background.

 There are currently more than 16,000 children in out-of-home care in NSW, due to the prevalence of domestic violence, parental drug and alcohol addictions and mental illness in the community.

Units have been achieving better value capital growth for property investors than houses according to an analysis undertaken by research analyst rpdata Cameron Kusher. Throughout individual capital city markets, the growth in the value of units has outperformed houses within Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Darwin over the last 12 months. Of all the capital city markets, Hobart has the most affordable units with a median price of $254,250 and Sydney the most expensive with a median of $450,000.

For years political and populist attempts to induce the British Museum and the British government to return the Parthenon marbles to Greece have been rebuffed andrudely ignored. TheBritish may rely on a threadbare claim of legality because of a supposed sale or contractual transaction but with whom? The Ottoman bey of Athens at the time? Certainly there was no Greek national  representative as there was no Greek nation to protest the ravishment of porticos and frescoes from the outer decorations of this, the most revered building in Western civilization.  For too long, supporters of the return of the Parthenon marbles have seen a legal challenge in the English High Court to be too daunting and unlikely to achieve the desired result. But a new initiative coming from the AHEPA organization in Sydney Australia may be able to construct a respectable argument to put before the English courts in such a claim - to release the marbles to the representatives of the Greek government for a return to their home and origin Athens.
